02 - Rendezvous with Thrik-Thrak

With the troll defeated, Jim left the group to meet with the priests of the Raven Queen who had summoned him to Zephyrus in the first place. But, as if to offset Jim’s absence, the group quickly made a new friend:

Spellman Von Cantos, human war wizard.

Spellman approached the party, following the booming sounds of the troll’s fiery casks. With the troll already waylaid, Spellman helped the party by casting a Read Languages ritual, enabling them to translate the note they’d found on Golkin’s body. The note proved to be a bill of sale, detailing the changing of hands of the venerable Zephyrus spice shop Spices N’ Things from the Golkins family to a mysterious gypsy, who promised good fortune to Golkin in return.

Several in the party recalled long-standing rumors that the spice shop stood over the location of an ancient temple of Thrik-Thrak, an elder god from Garrinham’s distant past. Seeking more information, the group broke into Gorkin’s apartment (using Spellman and Durkle’s Floating Disc rituals to enter the third-story residence), and though they didn’t find any evidence linking Gorkin to Thrik-Thrak, Durkle and Elron stole several hundred gold pieces and a few ornamental swords.

Turning their attention the spice shop, Muriel fey-stepped inside and opened the locked door for her comrades. The group startled a Vistani watchman, who attempted to escape. Instead, the watchman led the group directly to a trap door leading to a small series of caverns beneath the spice shop, before falling victim to a pit trap his own comrades had set up to defend Thrik-Thrak’s temple. The group found a crude tattoo of Thrik-Thrak’s symbol on the deceased watchman’s arm. Before descending into the caverns, Durkle burgled a handful of cumin from the spice shop.

In the caverns the group encountered several poorly-constructed homunculi and a gnoll called the Hand of Thrik-Thrak. The Hand was killed before he was able to warn his comrades of the invaders, and Muriel found a Glaive Deathstalker +1 in the Hand’s hoard of stolen and recovered weapons.

Finding a key to the cavern’s inner sanctum in the Hand’s ohgodican’tgoonlikethisanymore.
